Specific details for each of these requirements are outline in the Chemistry Graduate Student Handbook, and some are listed briefly below.

Coursework

PhD students are required to complete at least six graduate level courses, two of which can be outside of Chemistry (i.e., six CHEM 8000 level courses). After their first semester, students are required to enroll in a one credit hour divisional seminar in Chemistry (excluding Summer), as well as a one credit hour group meeting course (CHEM 6000) and research of variable credit hours (CHEM 9000) listed with their major advisor, every semester. In their final semester, all students are required to enroll in three credit hours of dissertation writing (CHEM 9300).

Note that no courses with grades below a C (i.e., C-, D, F) or U (unsatisfactory) or I (incomplete) can be included in the Final Program of Study or count towards degree requirements. Students must maintain an average GPA of 3.0 throughout their time at UGA. 

Seminars

There are two parts to the seminar requirements. Part 1 is enrolling in seminar as a course, and Part 2 is presenting in seminar. PhD students are required to present two seminars: one Literature Seminar and one Research Seminar.
