The Chemistry Department is now accepting applications for Chemistry Learning Assistants (CLAs) for the Fall 2026 semester. CLAs are the individuals who rotate during recitation sessions and help answer student questions. Being a CLA is a 6 hour weekly commitment which includes the following: 1 hour for recitation 1 hour for preparation (on your own time) 1 hour for a weekly meeting 3 hours attending the corresponding lecture course you for which you are a CLA You qualify to apply for a CLA position if you expect to (or have) earn(ed) a grade of B or higher in the class for which you want to be a CLA. First-time CLAs are also required to take CHEM 3710 that will be held on Fridays, 8:40-9:35 am with Dr. Abdelrahman for general chemistry CLAs or Fridays, 2:55-3:50 pm with Dr. Llewellyn for organic chemistry CLAs. This course qualifies for experiential credit, and you may take CHEM 3710 twice (over two semesters) to attain 6 of the 9 required upper division CHEM credit hours to earn a minor in chemistry. Please also note that the classwork and time spent in CHEM3710 is in addition to the 6 hour weekly responsibilities of being a CLA. If you are not able to attend CHEM3710 weekly, please consider applying in future semesters.
