Securing Your Web Browser Connection

to the Chemistry WWW Server

After completing this process, you will be able to use the login pages over a secure connection. All data that travels between your web browser and the Chemsitry WWW at login time will be encrypted and protected from computer hackers.

Follow the appropriate directions (below) for the web browser you are using.


Netscape Navigator 4.X

Several information screens will appear. These screens will inform you that you will be trusting the encryption method used on the Chemistry WWW server.

New Site Certificate. 

The first screen states that you are adding a new Signing Authority. Click Next.

The next screen will display information about the certificate holder (Chemsitry Department.)  Click Next.

The next screen asks how long the signing authority is valid. 

Select “Accept this certificate forever (until it expires)” and Click Next.

The next screen is a disclaimer and verifies you want to proceed. Click Next.


The nest screen confirms the process. Click Finish.


Internet Explorer 6.X

You will be told that you are downloading a file.  Click the Open option.

A certificate dialogue will appear.

Click the option to Install Certificate.

Click Next to continue the installation process.

Verify that Automatically select the certificate store based on type of certificate is selected and click next.

Click Finish on the next screen.

You will be asked to confirm the Add process. Click Yes.

Click OK to complete the installation and then click OK to close the remaining dialogue box.
