Ongoing Research Projects

 

 

            Our research consists of five major areas.   The present level of activity for each is   summarized below.

 

 

(I)        Total Synthesis:

 

            We are actively engaged in the synthesis of salvadiol (A), duclauxin (B) and 14-deoxyisoamijiol (C).  Our ongoing synthesis of salvadiol uses the same 6,7,6-tricyclic benzoquinone used in another synthesis [J. Am. Chem. Soc., 116, 4979-4980 (1994)].  Our interest in synthesizing the antibiotic duclauxin (B) arises from the fact that it is no longer available from natural sources.   Our strategy for preparing 14-deoxyisoamijiol is summarized in the next section.
