Research Instrumentation

The Department of Chemistry houses state-of-the-art instrumentation for teaching and research purposes. Recently renovated space has been provided to hold a variety of NMR, EPR, FTIR, and mass spectrometers, as well as two small molecule X-ray diffraction facilities. In addition to the major research instruments described here, numerous modern instruments for chromatography, absorption and luminescence spectroscopy, surface analysis, atomic force and scanning tunneling microscopy, magnetic susceptometry, and electrochemical measurements are available in individual faculty research laboratories. The Center for Metalloenzyme Studies operates the Metallobiochemistry Research Instrumentation Laboratory, which offers access to several sophisticated techniques applicable to the study of metal sites in biology.
