Abstract

The most successful ruthenium olefin metathesis catalysts to date are supported by ancillary phosphine and N-heterocyclic carbene ligands. To better understand the activity of these catalysts, we have studied the bonding in ruthenium and molybdenum model complexes that contain these ligands. We have used a variety of methods in our investigations, including multinuclear NMR, NMR magnetization transfer expts., x-ray crystallog., IR spectroscopy, and gas-phase photoelectron spectroscopy.
