Computational Center for Molecular Structure and Design

Computational chemistry has become an established branch of modern scientific investigation. With the advent of powerful computers and sophisticated programs, some of the fundamental problems at the interface of chemistry, biology, and physics can be more effectively pursued. Recognizing the need to develop basic methodologies, the University of Georgia has established the Computational Center for Molecular Structure and Design under the leadership of Professors Norman L. Allinger, Director, and J. Phillip Bowen, Co-Director. The Center's research focuses on understanding molecular conformations and interactions, as well as developing new computational procedures, primarily in the area of molecular mechanics and molecular modeling methods.

MSDThe Center is equipped with over a million dollars of state-of-the-art graphics workstations, computer hardware, and software. A new seminar series, Frontiers in Molecular Modeling, is sponsored by the Center, affording graduate students the opportunity to meet with other researchers from outside the UGA community. The Center, in association with the American Chemical Society, has sponsored short courses and workshops.
