Vibrational Spectroscopy

With four Chemistry faculty involved in various aspects of vibrational spectroscopy, there is a tremendous capability in IR and Raman spectroscopy within the Department. Ten different Fourier transform infrared spectrometers are available, with capabilities in the near-, mid-, and far-IR regions. Virtually every different type of IR sampling accessory is present, including an IR microscope, a fiber optics bench, and a custom-built monolayer sampling interface. Raman spectroscopy is also well represented, with scanning and CCD-detected Raman spectrometers for spontaneous and resonance Raman measurements. Laser excitation is provided by argon-ion, krypton-ion, dye- and Ti-sapphire lasers and a wide variety of sampling techniques, available for solid, liquid and solution samples (10-300 K). In addition, a new fiber optic coupled confocal Raman microscope is now available in the department.
